INSPECTION?

WHAT DOES AN INSPECTION MEAN FOR YOU?

Were you notified that you will be having an inspection done of your premises?………..what does that mean for you?

Clean Water Engineering has been hired by your local water authority to carry out the requirements outlined in their cross-connection control program.  If you received a notice that your premises will be inspected, that means you are a customer of a municipality’s potable water system.  Federal, State and Local Law’s require all potable water systems to implement and carry out a cross-connection control program.  This program outlines the authority hired by the water purveyor to inspect, document and, if needed have you make required changes to your plumbing system.  These inspections are mandatory and help maintain the safety of your drinking water.

When we enter your premises, someone 18 years or older must be present.  Please feel free to ask our Inspector for their credentials.  Our Inspectors will have identification with them.  While we are on your premises some of the common things we will be looking for include, but are not limited to, hose connections, utility sinks, water softeners, boiler systems, fire systems, lawn sprinklers and restrooms.  At no time will your water service be interrupted while the inspection is going on.  The average time for an inspection is between 15 to 30 minutes.  However, depending on the size of your facility, it may require considerably more time.

At the conclusion of the inspection, the Inspector will go over the findings with you.  A premises having no cross-connection(s), or one that has addressed and corrected any noted cross-connection(s) violation(s) will receive a compliant tag to be placed on, or near the service meter.  This ends your obligation. If violations are present, the Inspector will go over the corrective actions that are to be completed.  The owner of the premises is responsible for any needed repairs.  If you are a renter, refer to your lease agreement to see if you are responsible for the repairs.

If entry is refused, it shall be considered a violation of your Municipalities cross-connection control program, and it shall be sufficient cause for the water authority to discontinue water service to the property. In addition, Wisconsin Statute Section 66.122, gives the authority the ability to obtain a special inspection warrant to gain entry.

The Wisconsin Sate law requires that all violations must be done by a licensed plumber.  Clean Water Engineering cannot be contracted to make the repairs.  Once the repairs have been made, please contact us at 262-742-4200 and let us know that you have completed the necessary requirements and are ready for a compliance inspection.
